Santa has a long list of children to visit and many presents to deliver, so he and Rudolph will depart already on Sunday 23rd of December at 7pm Finnish time - as that is where he lives. That is 5pm UK time.

Saint Lucia MaidenSaint Lucia's Day (Saint Lucy's Day in English) belongs firmly to the Swedish Scandinavian tradition, adopted also in Finland amongst the Swedish speaking community. Saint Lucias Day is celebrated every year on the 13th of December as a Festival of Light. Many cities will have St Lucia's day processions made up of young people in long white gowns holding lit candles and so casting light on the winter darkness. They often visit old peoples homes and hospitals, a welcome treat for many elderly people and a chance to listen to a beautiful Christmas carol dedicated to Santa Lucia - a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas.

In Finland, the annual Lucia Maiden is crowned at the Helsinki Cathedral. After the crowning, the Lucia Maiden, dressed in long white dress and a wreath of candles around her head, descends down the steps of the Cathedral.

Last week Santa received the world’s longest wish list - it included 75,954 wishes from children (and some older ones too) in thirty different countries - from Portugal via the United States and to Singapore and Ghana.
The reel weighed 160 kilos and was almost 3800 meters long. That will keep us Tonttus busy for a while!
